Plight of the People expansion

Designed by Dávid Turczi, this expansion adds multi use cards, which adds a new element to the game - the universal element, as well as asymmetric abilities that are drafted at the start of each round.

Palace Visitors expansion

Designed by Jonny Pac Cantin, this expansion adds another location to Mutagen. Assist the Keeper of the Shard by visiting this location and gain benefits, but the workers you visited at this location won't be available to be placed on the main board until the end of the round

A successor arises

In the industrial revolution, one mining operation dug deeper than any other, and discovered a new and powerful element, known as ‘The Great Shard’.

The Great Shard’s mystical properties accelerated the industrial revolution and altered the world around it. The world would never be the same. 

 

Soon, the industrialist known only as ‘the Keeper’ had learned to control the power of the Great Shard. Their lust for progress extended beyond the industrial world, and morphed into an obsession with biogenetic modifications. People who indulged in this practice of self mutation became known as the Mutagen.

 

Now, many years later, the Keeper of the Shard is nearing the end of his unnaturally extended life, and you are one of four Mutagen in the running to take over their position of power. The Keeper will choose only one successor before he draws his final breath.

Upgrade your workers

Mutagen is a customisable worker placement game set in a 1920s biopunk universe.

 

Players can unlock the full potential of biological upgrades, by infusing their workers with biological upgrades that will grant them a decisive edge over their opponents.

 

In this way, each worker evolves throughout the game, meaning every game of Mutagen plays out differently.

Worker placement with a twist

Each player has four workers that each react differently to the areas they are placed in. Each time a player places a worker, they will activate that location's action, plus an additional action determined by the worker's type, as well as their biological upgrades.

 

With each worker placement resulting in 2-4 actions, Mutagen is full of satisfying combos.

 

 

Compete to be a worthy successor

By upgrading your workers, gathering resources, and using those resources to complete various tasks on the main board, you will gain Victory Points and prove to The Keeper that you are a worthy successor!
